The United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) provides technical
assistance to the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), which is a
domestic judicial institution established in accordance with Cambodian law. The ECCC
has jurisdiction to bring to trial senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea and those who
were most responsible for the crimes and serious violations of Cambodian penal law,
international humanitarian law and custom that were committed during the period from 17
April 1975 to 6 January 1979.
The Supreme Court Chamber is seized by voluminous appeals in Case 002/02 against
Khieu Samphan, with the judgment on appeals projected for delivery by the fourth quarter
of 2022. To facilitate the timely and efficient disposition of the appeals, UNAKRT is
seeking expressions of interest from legal professionals and experts of all levels with a
background in domestic and/or international criminal law to assist the chamber on a
consultancy basis. Successful applicants will be placed on a roster and their services may
be requested remotely, or they may be deployed to Phnom Penh, depending on the
overall requirements of the Supreme Court Chamber.
