The Second Biennial Conference on Law in Society in Africa, which will take place from April 1 – 3, 2019 in Cairo, Egypt, follows the successful inaugural conference in Cape Town in December 2016.
This year's conference is entitled "Africa and the Middle East in the Era of Global Fragility" and is co-hosted by the Law and Society Research Unit (LSRU) at the American University in Cairo, the South African National Research Foundation Chair in Security and Justice and the Centre for Law and Society (CLS) at the University of Cape Town.
The conference will be held at the AUC Downtown Campus in Cairo.
Abstracts and proposals of no more than 250 words should be sent to lsr@aucegypt.edu (cc pbl-cls.uct.ac.za). The deadline for abstract submissions is 29 December 2019.
Only papers specifically focused on Africa and the Middle East will be accepted and preference will be given to scholars working in these regions.
Registration will begin in January 2019. All participants must commit to submitting a draft paper by the deadline of March 30, 2019.
